The Fund for Wellesley Thanks Community Supporters

Contact: Rick Stockwood 617.953.0178

Foundation for MetroWest announced today that through the generosity of Wellesley residents, the Fund for Wellesley raised over $100,000 in the last three weeks of December.

In December, following the Fund for Wellesley’s sponsorship of Luminary Night, an anonymous friend of the fund issued a challenge grant in the amount of $50,000. Any donation made prior to December 31st would be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000. The Fund for Wellesley succeeded in meeting the challenge.

“We continue to be amazed by the generosity of the Wellesley community,” said Susan Hurwitz community board chair for the Fund for Wellesley. “We firmly believe that we should make a difference in our own backyards and this outpouring of support shows that we are not alone in that thought.”

Additionally, the Fund for Wellesley has been offered 10 invitational Boston Marathon numbers by the Town of Wellesley. You can meet the challenge of Heartbreak Hill and help to raise money for the Fund for Wellesley, by applying with the Board of Selectman’s office for one of the ten coveted slots. Applications must be turned in by January 18th and entries will be determined by lottery on January 19th. For more details please visit www.thefundforwellesley.org.

In 2010, The Fund for Wellesley granted over $10K to organizations around Wellesley. The grants were used to fund afterschool programs, youth initiatives, and community events and were distributed to Wellesley A Better Chance, The Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club, and the Babson College/Wellesley Housing Authority partnership.
