Contact: Judy Salerno (508) 647-2260

Natick, Mass., June 18, 2008 — Crossroads Community Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of family life in MetroWest, has appointed Kenneth Vacovec as Chairman of its Board of Trustees. Vacovec, a long-time trustee of Crossroads, is a founding partner of Vacovec, Mayotte & Singer, LLP, a Newton-based law firm. As chair, Vacovec will help Crossroads grow its asset base and strengthen its ability to serve underserved populations in MetroWest Massachusetts. He succeeds John Schwarz, who served as president for three years.

“Crossroads is well-positioned to guide MetroWest residents as they reinvest their charitable dollars back into our community,” said Vacovec. “Our goal is to foster local philanthropy, to reach out to both prospective donors and charities, and to expand our Youth in Philanthropy program. I look forward to working with the Crossroads staff and all of the organization’s constituencies.”

Vacovec practices in all areas of tax law and has developed his firm’s practice, which includes large, publicly-held corporations, high net worth individuals and their families, closely-held businesses, and corporate executives. He is the past President, Trustee, and Chairman of the Philanthropy Committee of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc.; he has also served as President and Trustee of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation and held numerous executive offices at the Massachusetts Bar Association. A graduate of Tufts University, he holds a J.D. cum laude from Suffolk University Law School and an LL.M. in taxation from Boston University Law School.

Crossroads also recently added two new trustees to its Board, Margaret Ramsey and John Steiger. Ramsey has been involved in the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program at Crossroads for several years and established Crossroads’ Youth in Philanthropy Endowment Fund in 2007. She spent 20 years in software research, development and consulting, including research positions at Bell Laboratories, teaching experience at Rutgers University in New Jersey, and co-founding a software start-up company. Steiger, a certified financial planner and accredited estate planner, joined Commonwealth Financial Group in 1993 and is in the process of launching his own firm, Wealth Planning Resources. For the past five years, he has served on the Executive Board of the Builder Association of Greater Boston and is chairman of its education committee. Steiger also spent nine years on the Board of the National Center on Family Homelessness in Newton.

“We are very fortunate to have such outstanding leadership,” said Judy Salerno, executive director of Crossroads. “Ken has been a tireless advocate for us, and he has well-established ties to the community. In John and Meg, we have two people who understand the value of local philanthropy and believe strongly in Crossroads’ mission. There are many individuals and non-profits that need our help, and the new Board will be a key resource as we work to expand our ability to assist MetroWest residents in need.”
