Middle School Programs



Youth in Philanthropy currently works with middle schools students at Nashoba Brooks School in Concord, MA. These students are entrusted with reviewing and granting up to $10,000 in funds to nonprofit organizations serving children and youth.

In 2009-2010, students recommended the following grants:

To help cover operating expenses that will fund birthday parties for homeless children in 15 new shelters in Eastern MA.

To further develop and implement the theater program, currently a component of the extended day enrichment program, embedding it into the regular academic day to allow all girls the opportunity to participate.

Funds will be used to purchase equipment and supplies needed for the maple syrup 'finishing' process in the new Sugar House.

To help with medical expenses for incoming greyhounds that are rescued from racing.

Funds will be used to enroll six families in the two year raised bed garden program. The organization aims to improve the food security and nutrition education of people with limited economic means.

To fund the 'Kid's Bags' program which provides families with healthy, nutritious food items for children's lunches at school.

To support the summer component of its educational after-school program. To provide students with a safe place during after-school and summer hours, help them improve their squash skills and fitness, engage kids academically by teaching interesting topics, and involve them in the community through service.
